Dr. Yiannis Papelis, OERI Chief Technology Officer and Executive Director of the Virginia Institute for Spaceflight & Autonomy (VISA), has been appointed by Governor Glenn Youngkin to the Aerospace Advisory Board.
The Aerospace Advisory Board advises the Governor, the Joint Commission on Technology and Space, and the Secretaries of Commerce and Trade, Technology and Education on policy and funding priorities regarding aerospace economic development, workforce training, educational programs, and educational curriculum, as well as promoting the aerospace and space exploration industry in the Commonwealth.
Dr. Papelis has been with Old Dominion University since 2007. He started as a Research Associate professor and quickly built a successful research program in the areas of behavior modeling, autonomous agent behaviors in agent-based simulation, and immersive virtual environments with sponsors including the National Institute of Aerospace, NASA, US Navy, and U.S. Joint Forces Command.
